Volunteering in Ghana

A Kindergarten Story

In May 2009, I had the eye-opening experience of building a school in the farming and trading village of Kpedze-Todze, located in a rural part of the Volta region of southeastern Ghana. We sourced local materials and, on a tight schedule of just four weeks, we worked closely with the community to see a collaborative design through to completion. This experience has not only given me invaluable professional skills such as teamwork and problem solving but has resulted in lifelong friendships. Below is a video that chronicles this adventure.

Design Build Photos

Below is a combination of photographs taken during the experience. This shows the journey from studio desgin to on site work, even including photos of sketching on the bus to make design changes on the way to the workshop.
